Ready to warm up in the microwave

This winter I have been warming my bed (and especially my cold feet) with two rice heating pads. One of them I purchased at a retail store and the other a friend purchased for me at a craft fair.

They are both neck warmers, however I don’t like wearing them around my neck, so have repurposed them to keep my feet warm!

Before I go to bed, I put them in the microwave and then take them with me. I have also used them on those cold weekend mornings when you just want to stay in bed and knit or work on the computer. I warm them up and then I am warm and cozy here with a cup of tea at my side. Heaven!

If you don’t want to spend a hefty retail price for a rice heating pad or if you want to create a specific size, then they are easy to make. You basically need rice, fabric, and a sewing machine.

This video very clearly explains how to make your pillow. The pockets that she created to keep the rice in place are a wonderful idea. One of my pads does not have pockets and the rice tends to wander. Also, do not overfill your heating pad. A little goes a long way and they hold the heat for hours.
